Fernando Botero is an abstract artist in the most fundamental sense of the word, choosing what colors, shapes, and proportions to use based on intuitive aesthetic thinking.

The "fat people" are often thought by critics to satirize the subjects and situations that Botero chooses to paint.

I read in wikipedia that Vladimir Putin's president of Russia, and Arnolfini (the guy in the pix) have the same physical resemblance to each other.

Just look at them closely.

The physical resemblance, is rather interesting indeed. I was fooling around with photoshoping his face into this dA submission, resizing, flipping the image horizontally, then reducing the number of colours to that of the dA. submission.

Can someone please explain to me the choice of colours used for this piece? I'm under the impression that some amount of potential detail, is lost this way.

he chose thoes colours because he didnt have anymore and the art supplies store was out too
